Xgen Fur Simulations

Inspired by macro photography, this series is an exploration on fur simulation and grooming to mimic a variety of imagined creatures. My goal was to achieve believability as well as invoking a sense of wonder within the viewer. In order to imitate life, I recreated the fur specimen within my scene file and adjusted values like the size, color, shape language, and specular value of the hair strands to match my macro photographs. To build up the illusion even more, I carefully mimicked similar lighting within my Maya scene and adjusted the depth of field attributes to obtain the same distinct look often linked to macro lenses.
