Art | Facts
Art I Facts is a collection of work that visualizes the space in our imaginations where the folklore of fantastical creatures merges with our knowledge of the science of fauna. An amalgamation of fantastical animals known to science and fictional beasts that border the known physics of our natural world. These specimens, ranging from computer generated fur to three-dimensional sculptures, blur the lines of fictional fact and factual fiction.
As an artist and huntswoman, I am inspired by my own experiences on hunts in the twilight of rural Texas, my works obscure, mix, and layer photography, sculpture and digital media to reflect convergence of the natural world and human civilization. It reimagines a natural history museum as a Wunderkammer to establish with the viewer a feeling of wonder and heightened sense of fascination within our natural world. This exhibition’s theme is centered on how folklore and mythological narratives are used to explain the unknown phenomena within the known natural world. This timeless notion of storytelling has evolved in our modern era by transforming into what we now call urban legends. With the evolution of computer technology and digital graphics, visual effects have further explored this arena of instilling wonder by creating the visually impossible.
